Les Contamines-Montjoie - Pays du Mont Blanc ski area. Not modern but a traditional ski resort, you will love Les Contamines. This is an ancient farming community with traditional architecture and mountain ways however it has a well organized and complete infrastructure of a serious ski resort..

Les Contamines has a permanent population of more than 1200 residents and as a result it has a proper community feel and many of the people you will come into contact with during your stay with us will be locals - whether it be the lift operators, ski instructors, shop keepers, or restaurateurs. As a result, like us, they are proud of their village and will want you to have a great holiday.

At an altitude of 1164m and nestled under the Mont-Blanc massif, Les Contamines-Montjoie lies at the end of a secret valley beyond the beautiful spa town of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains and only 20 minutes from the A40 motorway.

This vibrant village has 2 beautiful baroque churches which are open to visitors. 5500 hectares of alpine terrain has been designed for Nature Reserve - daily guided walks are available to discover the fauna and flora.

The Tourist Office issues a weekly program of events which includes a welcome reception in the village centre as well as details of the many events which the village hosts - World Cup of Ski and Ski Boarding Competitions, Night time cross country skiing, Children's races and activities for non-skiers.

There is a helpful Tourist Office, post office, ATM's, a couple of small supermarkets, plus souvenir and gift shops.

There is a traditional weekly market and of course a pharmacy and a medical centre which are open daily.

Why is this ?

Many theories abound the the real reason is its close proximity to the Mont Blanc massif which means that the resort has a micro climate giving it lots of snow !

Other reasons include the direction of the pistes themselves as the Les Contamines valley is predominantly North and East facing. With low winter sun this means that whilst it is often beautifully sunny the angle at which the sun hits the slopes ensure no harm is done to the snow conditions.

Another benefit is that much of the ski area is on summer pasture land so there are not many rocks and even a relatively small amount of snow gives a good base.

All in all, including the extensive infrastructure of artificial snow making equipement combined with considerable piste management, Les Contamines-Montjoie has a deserved reputation for exceptional snow cover and plenty of sunshine from December to late April.

So, whilst many of larger and better known resorts are struggling in poor snow years, Les Contamines always has plenty of snow and great conditions !.

The TV Lounge is located on the ground floor adjacent to the large terrace and allows for a relaxing evening after a strenuous day on the slopes.

Watch your favorite TV show or sporting event on a large 123 cm flat screen HD TV. World news in English, French, German or Spanish.

An open fire place provides for the atmosphere and there is space for card games, family games and recreation.

If reading is your way to unwind, books are available in French, English and Dutch.

The TV lounge can be used for small meetings or private functions.
